What is the Student Free Speech Alliance?
The SFSA is the First Amendment’s home at UNC. Carolina recently fell to #174 in the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s campus free speech rankings. Self-censorship, the fear of expressing one’s own opinions, is rampant on campus.

SFSA formed in 2023 to promote free speech policies and an open campus culture.

We believe that free expression, civility, and open inquiry are essential to the pursuit of truth, meaningful student engagement, and academic flourishing.

We are non-partisan, principled, and unabashedly pro-free expression!

What do we do?

• We work with allied organizations to host lectures and debates.

• We work directly with campus leaders to promote free speech.

• We educate students on their expressive rights, available resources, and more.
